Backhauling is trucking terminology that refers to a trucker hauling a load of freight on the return trip to its original departure point after having completed the delivery of their original goods/load. This is typically more efficient than making a return trip with an empty trailer attached (bobtailing) or returning to original departure point without a trailer attached (deadheading), and saves fuel and time.
